Abstract

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-spore-forming, non-flagellated, non-gliding and ovoid or rod-shaped bacterial strain, designated TYO-8, was isolated from an oyster collected from the South Sea in South Korea. Strain TYO-8 grew optimally at 25 °C, at pH 7.0–8.0 and in the presence of 2.0–3.0 % (w/v) NaCl. A neighbour-joining phylogenetic tree, based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, revealed that strain TYO-8 fell within the clade comprising the type strains of species of the genus , clustering coherently with the type strain of with a sequence similarity of 99.3 %. Strain TYO-8 exhibited 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity values of 95.3–97.5 % to the type strains of other species of the genus and of less than 92.9 % to the type strains of other species with validly published names. Strain TYO-8 contained MK-6 as the predominant menaquinone and iso-C, iso-C 3-OH and iso-C G as the major fatty acids. The major polar lipids of strain TYO-8 were phosphatidylethanolamine and two unidentified lipids. The DNA G+C content of strain TYO-8 was 33.8 mol% and its DNA–DNA relatedness values with the type strains of , and were 13–27 %. The differential phenotypic properties, together with the phylogenetic and genetic distinctiveness, revealed that strain TYO-8 is distinct from other species of the genus . On the basis of the data presented, strain TYO-8 is considered to represent a novel species of the genus , for which the name sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is TYO-8 ( = KCTC 42461 = NBRC 110923).
