Abstract

A Gram-staining-negative, catalase- and oxidase-positive, obligately aerobic, motile by gliding, bright yellow and rod-shaped bacterial strain was isolated from soil of Daemo Mountain (Daemosan) in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Its taxonomic position was investigated by using a polyphasic study. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence comparisons, strain THG–DJ7 was found to be most closely related to ED5 (97.9 % sequence similarity), THG 01 (97.6 %), THG-107 (97.5 %), D3 (97.1 %) and DCY54 (97.0 %). The DNA–DNA relatedness between strain THG–DJ7 and its phylogenetically closest neighbours was below 40.0 %. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was determined to be 32.6 mol%. The only isoprenoid quinone detected in strain THG–DJ7 was menaquinone-6 (MK-6). The major component in the polyamine pattern was -homospermidine. The major polar lipids were found to be phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidyldimethylethanolamine, an unidentified aminophosphoglycolipid, phosphatidylserine and an unidentified lipid. The major fatty acids were identified as iso-C, iso-C 3-OH and summed feature 3 (comprising Cω7 and/or Cω6). These data support the affiliation of strain THG–DJ7 to the genus . We report the phenotypic, genotypic and phylogenetic characterization of strain THG–DJ7. Based on the findings presented, a novel species of the genus , sp. nov. is proposed, with THG–DJ7 ( = KACC 17651 = JCM 19455) as the type strain.
