Abstract

SUMMARY

An historical review of the name is presented. The morphological and physiological characteristics, including photomicrographs of a stained preparation of Rhodes’ proposed neotype strain 28/5 (ATCC 13525, NCTC 10038, CCEB 546, RH 818) are reviewed. This strain is compared with Lysenko’s proposed neotype strain of and the neotype strain of (Schroeter) Migula 1 900. The authors support the strain recommendation of Rhodes and request an Opinion on this proposal by the Judicial Commission of the International Committee on Bacteriological Nomenclature.
