Abstract

SUMMARY

Grimes and Hennerty 1931 is a later illegitimate homonym of . Beijerinck 1900. . nom. nov. is proposed in its place. A detailed description is given. . is widely distributed in nature and is important in dairy science. It usually fails to produce gas from lactose at 37°C, but produces it abundantly at 2 0 - 30°C. . with which it may be confused, produces gas from lactose at 37°C. differs from by liquefaction of gelatin.
