Abstract

strains were examined for their ability to produce -aminobutyric acid (GABA). Results showed that strains of . subsp. lactis were able to produce this acid, whereas . subsp. were not. GABA production thus represents another effective characteristic for distinguishing . subsp. from . subsp. .
