The fact that this organism had a dam-methylated genome suggested that it is closely related to the taxon that includes Halobacterium saccharovorum, Halobacterium sodomense, and Halobacterium trapanicum. A sequence analysis of the 16S rRNA gene (Ch2 has three copies of this gene) showed that Ch2 is phylogenetically equidistant from the genera Haloarcula and Haloferax and closely related to H. saccharovorum. The susceptibility of both Ch2 and H. saccharovorum to the recently isolated halophage HF2 supported the hypothesis that these two organisms are closely related., UL https://www.microbiologyresearch.org/content/journal/ijsem/10.1099/00207713-43-4-729
