Abstract

The phylogenetic relationship between and representative members of the orders and has been examined on the basis of the sequence of the 16S rRNA. Phylogeny reconstruction by using both parsimony and distance methods supports the conclusion that is closely related to the Rickettsiales and in particular to the family A signature of nine base substitutions delineated the linkage of with and differentiated these two species from the 45 other members of the alpha group of examined, and five of these base substitutions were unique among all members of the class examined to date.
