The S. violaceusniger strains were separated into seven different DNA homology groups, including four single-member clusters, at a level of DNA relatedness of >70%. S. hygroscopicus NRRL 2387T (T = type strain) clustered with the type strain of Streptomyces endus and several S. violaceusniger strains. The other strains of S. hygroscopicus, S. sparsogenes, and S. melanosporofaciens formed single-member homology groups. %U https://www.microbiologyresearch.org/content/journal/ijsem/10.1099/00207713-41-3-398
