DNA from Mycobacterium fallax CIP 8139T (= ATCC 352191) (T = type strain) was 3H-labeled by nick-translation. DNA relatedness studies (S1 nuclease method) showed that the seven M. fallax strains studied form a single DNA hybridization group which is less than 25% related to 16 other species of the genus Mycobacterium. The guanine-plus-cytosine content of M. fallax DNA was 68 mol%, and the guanine-plus-cytosine contents of Mycobacterium aurum, Mycobacterium chitae, Mycobacterium duvalii, Mycobacterium flavescens, Mycobacterium gilvum, Mycobacterium neoaurum, Mycobacterium parafortuitum, Mycobacterium thermoresistibile, and Mycobacterium vaccae DNAs were 64 to 65 mol%.", }
