Abstract

The Subcommittee on the Taxonomy of unanimously recommends that the proposal to replace the family name with be rejected by the Judicial Commission. The arguments in support of this recommendation are as follows: (i) is a legitimate name that has been specifically conserved as an exception to Rule 9 of the ; (ii) the continued use of this name satisfies Principle 1 of the (to “aim at stability of names; avoid or reject the use of names which may cause error or confusion; and avoid the useless creation of names”); and (iii) is also specifically in accord with General Consideration 6, Principles 1, 8, and 9, Rules 21b, 23a, and 56b, and Opinion 15 of the , whereas the proposal to use violates each of these portions of the .
