A New Antibiotic-Producing Bacterium from Seawater Free

Abstract

Six strains of gram-negative, polarly flagellated, antibiotic-producing marine bacteria that synthesize an orange, noncarotenoid pigment were submitted to an extensive phenotypic characterization. All of them had properties characteristic of the genus . Two strains were closely related to . The others could be considered as members of a new species for which the name is proposed. The type strain of is strain 208 (= ATCC 33046 = NCMB 2052).
