A new serotype, sp. serotype : 6, 7:k:1, 7 Free

Abstract

ABSTRACT

During the course of a large scale epidemiologic investigation, a Gram-negative nonlactose fermenting bacillus was isolated by rectal swab from a 2-year-old boy who was suffering from chronic diarrhea and headache. The child was from the Laka Tribe, residing in the village of Ouli Bangala, Prefecture of Logone Orientale, Subprefecture of Baiboukoum, Tchad, Africa. The biochemical characteristics and sugar fermentations were compatible with those of the genus and serological evaluation revealed that the organism was a previously undescribed serotype: 6, 7: k: 1, 7. The new organism was named sp. ser. after the region in Tchad where it was isolated.
